I mainly fish freshwater (for bass), but I'm looking for a new reel that will work well for both salt and freshwater

Hi. Yes this reel will be perfect for freshwater. Go with the model 4000. The other bigger models are for saltwater only. These reels all have water proof drags so it is perfect for the salt as well

I would say that it is definitely usable in freshwater, but make sure the rod you are using isn't bulky like some saltwater rods, because for bass you need to cast often.

Great for the salt. It would work for fresh, but the size and weight might be a bit much for that application.

It depends on the size of the reel. I have the models 4000, 8000, and 10000. I use 12 lb test on the 4000, 20 lb test on the 8000, and 25lb test on the 10000.
