Sorry, this is a dumb question, I know, but I've been fishing live bait for 40 years and I have only caught fish on a lure two or three times in my life. I really want to learn how to fish these soft plastic baits here in NE Oklahoma.

First, I fish off the bank. Don't have a boat. I fish the Illinois River as well as the many fine lakes within a few miles of my home near Tahlequah, OK. I catch crappie, bass, trout, occasionally larger sunfish, and once in awhile catfish and walleye/saugeye. There's a lot of different fish species here in Cherokee Nation.

When tying on one of these baits, and similar baits, do you use one of those little snap swivels with a split ring through the hook eye to prevent twist, or do you just tie on?

Once tied on and ready to go, how do you go about fishing them?

I will sure appreciate any advice y'all might give me.

Thanks!

I would recommend a snap swivel (size 0-2) and a texas rigged 6-10" spin tail worm for starters on lures. I just started with lures about a year ago and I have had a lot of luck with Creme lures and plastic worms and lizards.

Hows it going my fishing friend....i would say no you dont need a swivel because of the added weight it gives to the bait which causes it to move unnaturally. just tie directly to the line and either put a cork 2 to 3 feet deep...make sure it is as lite as possible..and use swift short movements and pause...if there a fish around he cant stand it..or you can fish it with no cork and work it like you would a bass worm..pulling it up, letting it drop..and repeating it.. hopes this helps
