The metal post is bigger across the corners than the diameter of the inside of the PVC tube. Tube won't side over the post. Should it be forced on the post by scoring the insde of the PVC tube with the corners of the metal post?

I received two pieces of 2" Schedule 40 PVC pipe. The steel square tube is 1 1/4". Should just slide over and actually rotate. If you received 1 1/2 PVC, it would not fit.

A:
I noticed the length is slightly longer one way than the other on the metal post. They looked the same size in width but I did not measure them. I installed mine with the longer portion pointing up. The corners of the metal post contacted the inside of the pvc but I did not have to use any undue force. It will be snug since its a square post and a round pole. Once you get the metal posts on the trailer the pvc should slip over the post and slide down with very little effort

It went on fairly easy, just give it a little twist when you're putting it on. I used Piping Dope to keep the cap from being stolen.

The metal is 1-1/2 square and measured across the points it would be 2 inches which is the same size as the internal diameter of the schd 40 PCV.

A:
Fortunately, my install did not require this. I suppose you could run a 3/8-16 die on up the u bolts but it would cut all the zinc chromate coating off the newly threaded part leaving raw steel which is going to rust fast. I felt the hardware should have been stainless. The price seemed to indicate that they should be but aren't.

The metal L shaped tube is open on both ends. It would be pretty hard for water to reside in there.

A:
The metal tubes are open at the end, so any water that comes in should drain out, especially when driving. However, there may be a slight rise on the end that is open, so some water may remain at the elbow. If you're concerned about this, just drill an 1/8" hole at the elbow. This shouldn't affect the strength of the tube.
