depends on what you mean by "regular"...spinning rod light wt. 6 lb line, use a clear float about 4 to 6 feet ahead of the popper...fly rod is more fun and accurate

I would recommend a 4, 5, or 6 weight forward line with a leader just short of your rod length. This is a fly fishing "bug" and is very light and air resistant; you will have to use a fly rod to cast the line and lay out the popper. Alternatively, you can use one of these with a bobber to add casting weight on a lightweight spinning outfit, but you will have better fishing results with the fly rod.
