Would work fine on a pontoon but yes you would need another mounting part for aluminum rails. These were made to mount on top or side of fiberglass hull.A:

Mount this anywhere a self tapping screw will hold without causing a leak. Some double sided rubber adhesive tape between the holder and the aluminum would be good. None is needed if mounting to a carpeted wood deck.A:
