I found a rod that needs a reel, the rod isn't that great so I don't want to spend too much to fix it, is this a good reel considering it is only 8 dollars? Thanks!

No, I would probably buy a Shakespeare spincast reel. My friend has one that is 30 years old and still works great.

I would not reccomend the 202 it is a great example of getting what you pay for. Our family has had decent luck with the synergy reels from Shakespeare for just a few dollars more.

A:
All spincast reels twist the line. Every 50-75 casts, remove your tackle, strip off about 100 feet of line and let it blow in the wind or water behind a moving boat. This untwisting will make the reel cast like it has new line. Also, Reel Magic will help spincast reel cast 10-20% further.

As for servicing, an annual drop of light oil in moving parts areas NOT covered with grease is all that is required.
