Choose high pitch or low pitch Proven lethal and virtually invincible, Saltwater Grade Baits are incredibly tough evolutions of Bomber’s famous fish-catching designs specifically geared for saltwater fishing. Badonk-A-Donk baits induce vicious strikes with their panicked prey vibration. Badonk-A-Donk comes in two different pitches: High Pitch is perfect for windy days and stained water; Low Pitch is just right for calm days and clear water.

I fish mostly at night and I tend to get more hooked up with the Silver Minnow or #41 on the chart...in either the 3 1/2" or the 4" high or low...snook seem to be a little shy on the High Pitch though if it's calm so i would pick up a HP and an LP so you can adjust.
Overall I like the Speckled Trout Color best. BUT you have to take into account how clear the water is. I have had success with this color in pretty clear water.
I have used all different colors with success, it really depends on what the fish want that day you are fishing. Some days they want green, other days they want white or yellow, but, If I had to pick a favorite color that entices the most strikes overall, it would have to be the shiny variety...chrome silver or gold bodies...The Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish like the bling! The shinier the better, especially if the water is not super clear. Best bet is to purchase a variety of colors for your tackle box so you are prepared, but put emphasis on getting the shiny variety and try those first, if they don't produce, switch colors until you find what they want.
Fishing these I have found they don't run upright (especially when I pause on the retrieve). Can you suggest a replacement hook that would help lower the center of gravity?
Not likely...this is a "walk the dog" type surface lure with the fisherman providing the action...hold rod tip close to water surface, pull the bait either slowly or quickly in a jerking motion, reel in the slck, and pulling it again...just kep working at it until the bait moves from side to side as oppose to straight ahead.
Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish are the two main species this lure was designed for, however, I have caught Speckled Trout, Pompano, Whiting, and even hooked a small King Mackerel with these lures. The larger variety (1500 series) will handle larger species like Stripers, Mahi, and Tuna.
What are the conditions you usually fish? If it is windy or the water is muddied, High pitch. If not windy and/or water is clear, Low pitch. Noise is the answer. The High Pitch is noisier than the Low Pitch. Noise is an attractant to predator fish.
It depends on how you look at it. During calm days, low pitch have less rattle and work better. On rough, windy days, High pitch makes more sound to attract fish.
A slow, twitching retrieve works best for me, but try different speed retrieves. You never know which works best on any given day and conditions until you try each.
walk the dog, same as a spook or skitterwalk. throw out as far as possible, and use a twitch-pause-twitch retreive, taking up the slack with each pause. if the lure is darting side to side with each twich, you're doing it right.
