If you're using a spinning rod for bass, you won't need more than 10lb in mono. I wouldn't go over that. I would use fluorocarbon for worms though. It's more abrasion resistant and invisible. You'll feel him faster. For both, you would be fine with a 7' medium. If you were fishing the sloppier stuff with a worm you could go to medium heavy. Deeper diving cranks would also call for a medium heavy. I personally would do the 7' medium and use 10lb mono and fluoro. You should have a spare spool for that.

A:
5 pound bass should be no problem for this rod. Have used in all temps and perfroms well. It will accomodate the larger 3000/4000 type bass spinning reels . I don't know about deep sea reels if that is what you are asking.

A good rule is to use a rod rated for line at least as heavy as your fish. A medium fishing rod will be rated for 6-12 pound line or something in that neighborhood. Spinning rods that is. That is all you need. You don't need a huge spinning reel for bass. You seldom use 100 yards of line so you don't need a reel that holds 300 yards! Big waste of money. 2500 series Shimanos handle 20lb fish on a regular basis up here in Alberta.

I paired mine up with at Penn Sargus 3000 spinning reel and love it. I feel it balances nicely and the reel and rod work great to wear out big reds and get them to the boat fast.

I use a 6'3" Medium with a Black Max (12lb flouro)....I have caught several huge bass this spring with this setup. I will probably get another Vendetta that is Med 7' to use with another Abu reel that is loaded with 20lb flouro. I like the 6'3" length for a lot of applications....its easy to use on a boat with another fisherman....you can get into tight spaces (woods, trees, etc) when necessary and still make a good cast....and despite the fact that some will say those 7 inches its missing makes it the wrong rod for the job..its sensitive and tough....works great for my finesse worms, trick worms, and stickbaits. I'm buying the 7' to use for similar applications that require a little heavier line or casting distance.

I know braid affects the guides on some rods, but I've used it on several different brands that weren't braid ready supposedly, and it hasn't created any problems with them at all. I have a Vendetta and use it with Sufix Performance braid which claims to be softer and therefore compatible with all spinning reels whether they are braid compatible or not. They say their braid is as smooth on the reels as mono so I assume it would treat guides the same, that might be why I've never had any problems with braid on any rod I've owned, from the cheap ugly stick and guide series rods to the moderately priced All-Star and XPS, to the Vendetta. I tried original fireline first on this Vendetta, hated it.

I do have the Abu Garcia Vendetta rods. I have both casting and spinning Vendettas and I have used both in many ways including flipping and pitching although I mainly only use these techniques with my baitcasters. That being said, my answer to your 'question' is yes.

Is there anything else more specific you would like to ask about these rods?

I have a variety of the Vendettas, all paired with various Abu Garcia spinning and baitcasting reels.

They are very good when paired together. I find the new Veritas is a touch lighter and the sensitivity of the rod is more accurate than that of a Vendetta. i.e. A Medium (M) Vendetta feels more like a Medium Heavy (MH)

All in all, I love these rods and Abu Garcia has put out a wonderful product which is light weight and balances well with Abu reels.
