Enjoy a smooth, strong and reliable Shimano Sedona FD Spinning Reel for an affordable price! Shimano redesigned their Sedona FD Spinning Reels to incorporate top-of-the-line, performance-enhancing features such as their Propulsion Line Management System and the Power Roller III to give anglers the reel confidence required to meet any challenge. The Sedona FD Spinning Reel's lightweight graphite frame, sideplate and rotor provide tremendous strength and durability, with the Sedona FD's cold forged aluminum spool works in tandem with the Propulsion Line Management System's new spool lip design to deliver increased casting distance by minimizing friction and preventing backlashes. Although Shimano engineered the Sedona FD with improved features, the revamped Sedona FD still offers many of the same premium features found on Shimano’s original Sedona Spinning Reel including: exclusive S Concept technology, Dyna-Balance® system, Super Stopper® II, Fluidrive®, 4 shielded stainless steel ball bearings plus one roller bearing and cold forged aluminum spool.

Propulsion™ Line Management System: Five key components (spool lip, bail wire, roller, bail trip and cam) have been completely redesigned to reduce friction and promote uniformity of line movement. The result: more distance, less friction, fewer backlashes and wind knots, and greatly reduced line twist.

Super Stopper II is Shimano's exclusive instant anti-reverse system. Built with a one-way roller bearing that eliminates all back-play in the handle—for instant hooksetting power.

Power Roller III Part of the Propulsion Line Management System, Power Roller III reduces line twist by as much as 50%. Special grooved design assures that the line will wrap evenly on the spool.

Dyna-Balance® eliminates wobble on the retrieve by counter-balancing the rotor to enhance sensitivity and smoothness. 100% computer balanced!

Fluidrive® gearing means that your reel was manufactured with the highest tolerances and utmost control in the gear-cutting process, to ensure a smooth, powerful retrieve every time.

Shimano S-Concept features ensure that your spinning reel will perform beyond expectations. Features vary by reel model, but may include a specially designed rotor, guard, roller clutch, and/or arm cam.

Line recovery in inches per handle turn.

I've used my FD2500 for the last five years on Steelhead Alley and have no complaints. The drag works smoothly and it handles the coldest days with no problems.

They are both good reels. You might check with your local tackle shop to see what others in your area are using or try them both out.

Yes and yes. We have ours lined with 20-pound braid. We use them for speckled trout with just a hook and a live shrimp...same for reds. Also use them offshore for sight casting to chicken dolphin to medium sized mahi again with just a single hook and bait.

Like everything else in sports "it depends"! Line weight, line material, hook size, worm/egg, etc. size and weight, and importantly, the rod length and weight. A long, soft rod will let you lob light bait a good distance if you have a light, limp line....as to the size of the fish, I have used a 1000 for reds up to 12 pounds and speckeled trout and flounder with no problem. I regularly use a 1000, a 1500, and a 2500 on freshwater and inshore saltwater almost interchangeably without concern. The reel doesn't lose fish, the fisherman loses fish. The 1000 is a great reel for whatever you are after; if the fish whips you with a small reel, strong line, and an appropriate rod, at least you have had a great time fighting him....

I have used a similiar BPS PQ Reel for years, and it is a good reel, however, I like my Shimano better for drag smoothness, and all around smoothness (reeling etc). PQ's do tend to corode a bit on the chrome parts.

wind knots are directly proportional to the person who put the line on the reel. if you put to much or dont get it tight enough it will have wind knots weather u paid 20 dollars for the reel or 300 dollars for the reel

If you are using a light action rod with this reel then very small lures should cast well. I've not cast any in the 1 to 3 gram weight. As for wind knots with very light line, yes, they will probably be a problem. I experienced it with 10 lb flourocarbon line when I was fishing in fairly stiff - 20 to 30 mph - winds.

A:
The reels will handle any line you put on them, but if you put heavy mono or flurocarbon on a small reel, it will coil off of the spool. I've used six to 10-pound mono on my 1000 and 1500-series reels, and they cast fine. To prevent the coils from forming, I'd suggest that you stay under 10-pound test mono/fluoro on the smaller spools, but you can use some pretty heavy braid with no problem because it is very limp. A short mono or fluoro leader will take care of spooky fish that don't like to see the dark braids. Choose your line based on what you are trying to catch (or cast), and the reel will do its job.

Depends on the size reel

500 - light line not above 4lb

1000 - anywhere from 2-6 lbs test

2000 - 8-12 lb

On the bigger reels they can handle any lien even braided line.

I recommend the BPS braid OR any BPS excel product - they are cheaper without being cheaper, if you know what I mean.

A:
Absolutely. The line capacity isn't huge, so you might need one of the larger sizes, although if using braid, you can still fit a lot of line on these reels. The super smooth drag allows big fish to be caught on it.

If you are in the 4000 series, sure no problem. The 2500 will be pushing it if you are regularly catching 15lb fish. I'd say to go the 4000 if you will catch a lot in the 15 lb zone.
Of course if you are just getting em to the boat and then netting them, you could porbably push the envelope a little harder, the right line makes all the difference!
