How would this combo perform for general non-cat fishing, including bass, trout, and crappie? What is the range of lure weights on the 7’ MH combo?

This combo is not for fast retrieve casting like you would when fishing for bass and trout, a little heavy duty for that type of fishing.

There is nothing wrong with the line that it comes with . Maybe the area that you are fishing is rocky or has a lot of structure that could be damageing the line

Its defintely pretty stiff and has slow action . The cat buster combo I bought comes with a min. of series 500 spinning reel . Maybe its even a little heavier. No bait runner on it .

This combo doesn't have a bait clicker, and I don't think I'd use any sinker more than 2 ounces. Maybe 4, but like I said in my review, the rod is so flimsy, I don't think you'll have much luck casting with so much weight on there. It's a good cheap combo for using night crawlers and chicken livers in relatively calm waters with a 1-2 ounce weight (or less). Good luck and take care!
