For a great bang for the buck pest control/target practice pellet, get crossman pointed. If you're looking for serious hunting like rabbit or coyote, you have to get predator polymag. they are by far the best hunting pellet ever!! just read the reviews and you'll know what i mean.

In the CONS list, i noticed the following:

* 4 x 32 scope no grip on the stock
* factory settings rough

What does no grip on stock mean? Does it mean i cant change the scope?

What does Factory settings rough mean?

Sorry i just really don't get it, I wanna get this rifle and need these questions answered, thanks.

A:
no grip on stock means no checkering on the hand grip area of the stock. Factory rough settings means that when you first shoot after mounting the scope the rifle you may shoot way way off from what you see as your aim point and have a lot of adjusting to do before you have the scope zeroed in..

The stock is smooth, there is no checkering. The trigger has a long 2 stage pull and has alot of creep.

A:
1. this rifle does not have checkering (carved lines on the wood stock to keep it from slipping in your hands). It has nothing to do with scope.
2. I believe they are talking about the trigger settings being rough. this rifle does not have a very good trigger and the trigger pull is heavy (one of the draw backs of cheaper air rifles).

The rifle uses standard clamp on scope rings, you can put any type scope on it that you would like so long as the rings are the groove type and not screw mounted rings.
Rough factory settings is probably refering to the trigger pull. It is a little rough and is not adjustable.

Well it depends how responsible the 15 year old is and where you live. the vantage 1200 is capable of speeds of up to 1200 feet per second, which is more than enough to punch through a wooden fence, and distances of hundreds of yards. so if he or she is safe with it and shoots at suitable targets, it should be just fine. unless you live in the city and your neighbors don't like noise. but if i got one for my birthday, i would be thrilled.

This is a powerful gun. It depends on the matureity level of the 15 yr old and the availability of adult supervision. That is something that you will have to determine for yourself.

That is a hard one to answer. It depends on the maturity of the child, and of course the safty training that he is given.
I recommend a good Hunters safety course even for a pellet rifle. They can be dangerous if mis-handled.

That of course depends on the 15 year old. But I had and was shooting rifles by 15 and was hunting with my dad at about 12. It depends on his previous training and experience and upbringing to judge his current safety, abilities, and behavior with a firearm. This gun, while fun, is not really a toy and is very powerful. If HE is appropriate for the gun, then this is a FANTASTIC birthday present. I would have passed out if I got this for my birthday at 15! Good luck, FireFox.

Depends on how responsible he is. My son is 14 but he's been shooting for 5 years. This thing is not a toy. 1200 fps is almost as fast as a 22 cal. bullet. It can kill.

My son is 12 and he uses it with my supervision. I would trust him with this gun at 15, but he is already mature for his age.

Best check with the local authorities. It is not considered a "Firearm" by the federal government, but some cities and localities have their own rules about owning and using even a pellet gun.
