I am looking for a 3" rod for mostly 1-2 lb bass, but the occational 5 lb+ pike comes along sometimes. Do you think this rod would be suitable?

WIth out a problem. I accidentally snagged (by my guess) about a 6 lb Koi. while fishing a park lake. It took a lot of line and time to get it in but the rod worked great.

This rod will work very well for the 1-2 lb bass. You'll want a good drag on your reel when the 5 lb pike takes the bait -- but the rod can handle that, too.Answers

i like to fish small creeks where there's alot of overhanging tree limbs and brush, so this rod sounds like exactly what im looking for!just curious what type of reel and line would work for me?

the rod recomends line 2-12 pound test and i use a the Bass Pro Shops tinly lite on mine. but and ultra light to small light reels should work.A:
500 series shimano. Light is the key. Dont buy a heavy reel for this rod. Would flip under them limbs nicely.A:

Any spinning reel will work fine, I have used a Pflueger Supreme & Pflueger Medalist with it and I currently have it rigged using a Mitchell 300XE with 12 lb test. The lighter test line you use the further it will cast. I have used it with 8 lb test as well, it worked great for me.Answers

i can cast about 25-30 feet with a medium splitshot. as long as you have a good reel yes.A:
Longer rods allow for longer casts. Also, this is a fairly rigid graphite rod that doesn't add much of the "slingshot" effect to casts. Having said that, a small diameter, QUALITY fishing line will make a BIG difference in casting distances. As will heavier lures. I can cast plastic topwaters and small spinners a country mile with this rod! I have caught bass just short of 5 pounds on these rods...no problem. Use a decent quality reel with a smooth, consistent drag. Combined with some of these excellent new superlines, you should have no problem landing bass.A:

I have caught many bass using this fishing rod, I love this rod its great for kayak fishing. I was going through a narrow area recently at a pretty good speed and the tip of my rod got caught on the bank and almost bent the rod in half, I thought it would break but it didn't. I caught the bass you see pictured here (and many others) with this rod. As far as casting goes, that will depend on the line that you use and the weight of your lure. When I use ultralight lures like the Rebel Bumble Bug I'm generally fishing around overhanging brush and trees maybe throwing the lure 10 yards or less on 8 lb test. When I throw crankbaits I get much more distance, again depending on the weight of the lure, choice of line and wind conditions probably in the 25 yard to 35 yard range, I hope this helps.Images for this Answer
