Not sure about the exact thermal rating but it has yet to fail me. Not sure if I'd take it snowbiling, but I use it when I'm using the snowblower. It's probably a medium weight jacket. Wear a chamois shirt underneath and you'll be GG.

Don't know the thermal rating on the jacket, but I wear mine on windy days with temps in the teens and the cold does not get in. If you were to wear a layer under the jacket it would be even better.

I can't tell you the rating but I live in a cold climate and find this to be a very warm jacket.

A:
The hood is NOT detachable. Of course, this means there isn't any potential gap for wind to penetrate. Plus, the hood will be there when you need it.

The hood is not detachable. The hood has the same lining as the jacket with cinch straps to tighten it down.
