This does not come with a battery. You will need a Marine 12-Volt Battery. Your battery will determine the battery life. Example a 20amp battery will last 32 hours.

Does the Pirhana 150 or the 170 come with a battery case? I'm interested in finding a system that will work in a canoe or jonboat.

no battery case comes with this fish finder. I imagine you can hook it to any 12v battery and get the power you need including smaller batteries for motorcycles, lawnmowers, etc.

This unit is "hard-wired" into the front deck of our crappie boat. The transducer is attached to the trolling motor. So I'm not sure if you could make this unit "portable' or not. Hope this helped.

The pirhana 150 and 170 are not meant for portability. Neither units come with a battery or battery case. A good unit for you would either be the humminbird 160 portable or 565 portable. Both of these units come with a 12v battery case and suction cup transducer. Because your already looking at the 150 or 170 i would suggest looking into the 160 portable unit as it is very comparable to both of these units.
