MOST STATES HAVE A CALIBER MININUM, USUALLY A .357 MAG IS THE SMALLEST MOST STATES WILL ALLOW YOU TO USE. A 44 MAG WOULD BE A MUCH BETTER CHOICE

I hate to answer with a question, but...At what range?

As you probably know, velocity drops quick after the bullet reaches the muzzle and even faster past 50 yards.

The .357 hollow points will deliver excellent energy and expansion out to 50 yards. The .38 will deliver similar velocity, but since the mass of the bullet is lower, you won't likely get adequate energy for a kill.

.357 should work well for deer, 38 specials would probably be a little weak
